U.S. Representative Becca Balint unveils $500 billion federal housing bill
BELLOWS FALLS — U.S. Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., unveiled what she said Monday was her first major piece of legislation in her first term in Congress — a $500 billion plan to boost affordable housing.
Speaking in the Canal Street parking lot outside the Bellows Falls Garage apartment building, Balint pledged to work to making more housing more affordable, all over the country.
The bill — jointly sponsored by Balint and Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., who is chairman of the congressional Renters Caucus — has already been endorsed by Vermont housing advocates, including the Windham Windsor Housing Trust, the Champlain Housing Trust, the Housing and Homeless Alliance of Vermont, and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board.
